The Boyertown Area YMCA will be collecting gently used running and soccer athletic shoes, adult sizes 6 – 11, beginning October 1 through mid-November. Shoes will be collected for the MORE foundation, a Delaware 501c3 non-profit organization that provides the athletic shoes to nations like Africa and South America. The shoes are sold in major metro areas to vendors who in turn create jobs and help improve the quality of life in cities. The proceeds from the sale of the shoes provide training and tools to the poorest rural farmers. Collecting used shoes and selling them also provides environmental benefits, as many shoes end up in landfills. Reusing these shoes further promotes the global efforts to reuse and recycle.

Collection boxes for the athletic shoes will be in the lobby of the Daniel B. Boyer Center, 301 W. Spring Street, Boyertown and the William S. Hollenbach Center, 3065 N. Charlotte St., Gilbertsville.
