Driver sustains head injuries in DUI accident in Richmond Township

Fleetwood Police report that Justin Zettlemoyer, 35, Kutztown, was traveling west on Virginville Road in Richmond Township at an apparent high rate of speed on Oct. 13 at about 3:30 a.m. As his vehicle travelled over the crest of a hill, he was unable to maintain control, travelled south across the double yellow line and into the opposite lane and then struck an embankment on the north shoulder. The front end then struck a utility pole and the vehicle flipped onto its roof.

Zettlemoyer was able to free himself as witnesses approached. He exhibited signs of intoxication at the accident scene, according to the police report.

He was transported by Fleetwood Ambulance to Reading Hospital for head injuries.

Fleetwood, Virginville and Walnuttown fire companies assisted at the scene, as well as Kutztown Police Department.

Investigation pending BAC results. Charges pending.

DUI in Richmond Township Fleetwood Police report that Charles Bowers, 47, Kutztown, was observed operating his Dodge Dakota truck in an unsafe manner on Moselem Springs Road, crossing the center double yellow line several times as well as the right white lane line. Bowers was then stopped for those traffic violations, during which he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Bowers was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and transported to Berks County DUI Center for further testing. Investigation pending BAC results. Charges pending.

Fleetwood Police report to The Patriot that the department responded to 66 total incidents from Oct. 7 to Oct. 13.
