Students from Tilden Elementary Center witnessed some exciting demonstrations by local firefighters on Oct. 10 and 11. This special school assembly was the highlight of National Fire Prevention Week for the students.

Firefighters from both Union Fire Company of Hamburg and Shoemakersville Fire Company were on hand for two separate assemblies. Chief Troy Hatt from Hamburg discussed fire safety and explain the various ways firefighters will rescue people from burning buildings.

Students observed a special demonstration by the firefighters who explained how their personal firefighter equipment works.

After the demonstration, Chief Hatt and his team talked about the equipment a firefighter wears, “Stop, Drop, and Roll,” the importance of smoke detectors, and how to safely evacuate your home in the event of a fire. Students were excited to engage Chief Hatt with questions about firefighting and how to protect their family and pets.

At the close of the assembly, Dr. Gravish and Dr. Fitzpatrick presented Chief Hatt with a check from the money that teachers collected on a special Blue Jeans Day as a donation to the fire department.

The faculty, staff, and students of Tilden Elementary Center thank the Union Fire Company of Hamburg for taking time to visit our school.
