Twin Valley Elementary Center’s Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) Committee is using the Seven Wonders of the Modern World as their theme for this school year. In conjunction with this theme, TVEC will have school principal, Mr. Craig Sell, dress as “Waldo” from the “Where’s Waldo?” books, and he will travel the globe, visiting the seven different modern wonders as students explore them at home and in the classroom. The program kicked off on Monday, October 21st with a school assembly at 2 pm. During the exploration of the modern wonders of the world, the students at TVEC will be reading and tracking their minutes in a reading challenge. The more minutes the entire school accumulates, the more “challenges” Mr. Sell will have to complete (for example, in the first challenge, should they accumulate 125,000 minutes of reading, Mr. Sell will come to school in his pajamas and it will be an all-school pajama day). In addition to reading and tracking their minutes, at all TVEC school functions throughout the year, we will be collecting pennies-only for Kids for K.I.D.S. (www.kidsdonations.org) to provide books for children in need. A special cultural lunch will also be served one day during each of the “wonder weeks,” the first being Italian as students learn about the Coliseum in Rome.
