Saturday, Nov. 16 LECTURE A monk from the Monastery of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, will speak at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 1236 Juniper St., Pottstown at 4 p.m. Nov. 16. In his talk, ‘Christ and the Early Church,’ Fr. Konstantin will speak about Christ’s ministry and the formation of His church. All are invited to attend the talk and to enjoy a light Lenten meal afterward, and to say for the typical Saturday evening Vespers at 6:30 p.m. in the church. On-site parking is available. Tuesday, Nov. 19 SHERLOCK HOLMES BOOK CLUB

Children between 8 and 12 are invited to register for November Kids Book Club at the Exeter Community Library, 4569 Prestwick Drive, Reading. This is a monthly book discussion group featuring books selected by the student participants. The event will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. Interested kids need to have read Sherlock Holmes & the Baker Street Irregulars, The Fall of the Amazing Zalindas by Tracy Mack & Michael Citrin in order to participate.

Thursday, Nov. 21 CRIME WATCH

Amity Township Crime Watch will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at St. Paul’s Church, 548 Old Swede Road, Douglassville beginning at 7:30 p.m. Crime Watch Liaison Officer Thomas Gauby will discuss recent incidents in the township. A brief meeting will be held, followed by refreshments. The public is invited to attend.

SENIOR CITIZEN SHOW Exeter Township School District senior citizens are invited to attend a free breakfast and dress rehearsal presentation of the entertaining show ‘Music Man – Junior’ on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013.

Breakfast will be served in the Exeter Township Junior High School cafeteria starting at 8:15 a.m. and the musical will begin in the auditorium at 9 a.m. To reserve a seat for breakfast and/or obtain a Senior Citizen Courtesy Card, telephone 779-0700 (ext. 1029) no later than November 15. Reservations are ONLY NEEDED for district residents (Exeter Township and St. Lawrence Borough) who want to attend the breakfast. Non-resident senior citizens are cordially invited to attend the show at 9 a.m. and reservations are not necessary.

Sunday, Nov. 24 WOODWIND QUINTET

The FYVE Woodwind Quintet will perform a variety of music 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Shillington.

The group is made up of five acclaimed Berks County musicians: Julie Beth Drey, clarinet; Robin Lilarose, flute; Valerie Trollinger, bassoon; Shari Gleason-Mayrhofer, horn; and Jill Haley, oboe.

APPLE SALES Continuing into October, the apple orchard at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for apple picking. Entrance to the park is free.

Visit The Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, 2 Mark Bird Lane, Elverson to select and pick your own apples from over 30 historic and modern varieties grown in Hopewell’s orchard. Availability of varieties depends on the success of our growing season.

CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS Berks County Association for the Blind needs volunteer drivers to take clients to special programs and events. You can sign up for as many days as you want to. HOPE UMC’S PRAYER TIME Hope UMC is inviting everyone to the last Friday of each month for Prayer Time 7 to 8 p.m. This is an open invitation for anyone to come and join in for a casual and relaxing time of spontaneous prayers.

A time to pray together or by ourselves for all kinds of prayers, some of which may be for ourselves, friends, family, our community, our church, our schools, and current world events. DERBY GIRLS Wanna be a Derby Girl? Reading Derby Girls are looking for ‘fresh meat’ to join the all girls flat track roller derby team. If you can already skate, great, if not, we’ll teach you. We practice at Skateaway, 2275 Lancaster Ave., Shillington. We recommend a mouth guard.

You can borrow skates and pads from the team if you don’t have your own. Reading Derby Girls’ Wednesday ‘Fresh Meat’ practices 9:30 – 10:30 p.m.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS It takes all kinds of people in the community to make a successful foundation. The BLAZER FOUNDATION is seeking volunteers who wish to make a difference to the students of the Daniel Boone School District.

The Blazer Foundation’s purpose is to enhance the education and development of the youth of the Daniel Boone School District through supporting creative and innovative programs, and developing and sustaining community and business partnerships.

ENERGY AUDIT Use your Boone Area Library card to check out the Home Energy Audit Kit. Plug appliances into the Kill-A-Watt electricity usage monitor and it will tell you how efficient they are. The Kill-A-Watt LCD display measures consumption by the kilowatt-hour, just like the elective company. Reduce your electric bill.
