Members of the Berks County Livestock Clubs exhibited and sold their 4-H projects at the 2013 Annual Roundup held at the Reading Fairgrounds the end of September. Jonathan and Allison May, Buffalo Mills, evaluated the livestock prior to the sale.
The round-up marks the end of a successful year for 4-H members who have worked for months to feed, groom, and prepare their livestock for the show and sale. Agriculture supporters throughout the county came out to support the youth as they finished their 2013 market projects.
The sale, Sept. 27, began with the sale of champions. Exhibitors of champions were April Stafford, Bernville, market steer; Phillip Stutzman, Kutztown, market dairy beef; Mark Balthaser, Bernville, market hog; Dalton Gromlich, Hamburg, market lamb; and Kelsey Boltz, Bernville, market goat. Exhibitors of reserve champions were Jessica Spatz, Morhsville, market steer; Jacob Guldin, Oley, market dairy beef; Mikayla Trubilla, Kutztown, market hog; Ty Brown, Kempton, market lamb; and Jonathan Werley, Shoemakersville, market goat. The sale, which featured 114 project animals, grossed about $110,000, a new record for the Berks County 4-H Livestock Round-Up Sale.
