The Lyons Fiddle Festival drew a record crowd for its 30th annual event Sept. 15.

“The Lyons Fiddle Festival had nearly 6,000 people this year, the highest attendance in its 30 year history,” said Georgianne Haring, Lyons Festival committee member.

“Those who came to our festival experienced one of the most uplifting events of the year, where they were taken on a melodic journey as they enjoyed the beauty of music.”

Held Sunday from 9a.m. to 5p.m. at Lyons Community Park, the festival featured fiddling performances, fiddling competition and the opportunity for jamming throughout the park grounds.

Keith Brintzenhoff and Uncle Jeffrey Tapler hosted the festival for their 6th and 4th year, respectively. Brintzenhoff, of “The Toad Creek Ramblers,” is known as a Pa Dutch expert and performer. He was also involved in the former Lyons Fall Fiddle Festival for more than 20 plus, according to the festival website.

When asked about the highlights of this year’s festival, Haring said for her a highlight was as host Uncle Jeffrey said,“God Bless the Lyons Fiddle Festival and God Bless America.”

“I fought back tears as many around me cried openly as I saw all the veterans rise, accompanied by The Topton Legion Honor Guard and the amazing singing of the national anthem by Bailey and Rebekah Zepp,” said Haring.

The annual fiddle contest kicked off with Ken Gehret’s playing of the “Orange Blossom Special.” This was the only tune not allowed to be played in the fiddle contest.

Judges were Hannah Miller, Dave “Mitch” Miller and Ted Fenstermacher.

Haring said that the efforts of their dedicated volunteers make this event a continuous success.

“Please join us next year Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014 for another day of music with friends you have known forever and ones you have yet to make,” said Haring.
