More than 300 cars, trucks and motorcycles packed Fleetwood Park on June 13 for the 10th annual Fleetwood Rotary Show Of Wheels.
“The Show of Wheels is a community event,” said Fleetwood Rotarian Jim Long. “It’s a synergy of individuals, community organizations and generous companies. The Fleetwood Rotary Club is made of individuals, yet these represent many of the prominent organizations in the Fleetwood area. The Fleetwood Fire Company does their part and benefits from the concession stand. The Friends of The Fleetwood Area Library pitch in with the clothing drive and benefit with a donation, and the City Thrift Shop gets the much-needed men’s clothing.”
What made this year’s show a success?
“All those individuals doing their part, so that as a whole it runs smooth and enjoyable,” said Long. “The generous sponsors who pitched in monetarily to make it a successful fund raiser and fun raiser.”
For the men’s clothing drive, Fleetwood Rotary will donate $1 for each piece of donated clothing, up to $1,000.
“What a success. Christine Leonhardt emphasized the need for men’s clothing stating that they had none to put out. The Friends of Library exceeded their goal of 1,500 pieces and collected over 2,300,” said Long.
All the clothing is given to City Thrift Shop, 314 Penn St., Reading.
“(The Show of Wheels) provides an event where we can all come together, several of the afore-mentioned organizations get needed funds. Fleetwood Rotary uses some funds for community projects, like you can see with the fitness trail in the park,” said Long.
He also enjoys participating in the car show.
“I personally like driving in my 75 Pinto Wagon and watching folks point and laugh. The next thing is the Duck Race,” said Long.
He sees this event not only benefiting the Rotary monetarily.
“It’s a successful fund-raiser, but it also helps us pull together as a team for a common goal. That just makes you proud,” said Long. “It’s a great bunch of people in the Fleetwood Rotary.”
