EAST NORRITON — The pregnant wife of a Pennsylvania state trooper was fatally wounded Friday afternoon when she was shot in the 3000 block of Stoney Creek Road.

The woman, identified as Joanne Miller, was transported to Mercy Suburban Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her unborn child did not survive.

According to a press release issued by Montgomery County First Assistant District Attorney Kevin R. Steele, East Norriton Township police responded to the scene at 2:55 p.m. and found the victim inside the residence. A joint investigation of the shooting by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and East Norriton Police is under way. Initial reports indicated the shooting was accidental.

East Norriton and state police had the entire block cordoned off with barricade tape as they remained at the scene into the evening.

Neighbors expressed shock and sorrow upon hearing the news of the shooting.

Miller was the wife of a of a Pennsylvania state trooper stationed at the Skippack barracks.. County records list the home on Stoney Creek Road as belonging to Joseph P. Miller.
