The Daniel Boone Jr. Legion Orioles made it all the way to the championship game of the state regional tournament in Pottstown. With a 7-2 loss to Nether Providence (a team the Orioles lost to earlier in the tournament), Boone was eliminated from the tournament, winning three games and losing two.

Twin Valley swimmers break records |Jul 30, 2014

The Twin Valley girls U14 swim relay broke the Brandywine Swim League Medley relay record on July 19 and they broke the Freestyle relay record on July 26, both records were from 1994. The girls also broke the Twin Valley swim team relay record in both the Freestyle relay(1998) by 8 seconds and the Medley relay (2007) by 17 seconds.

The Kutztown KYAA 12U baseball program has completed its spring-summer season with a 1-2-3 Kutztown sweep in the overall standings. For 37 years, Lee Mecherly coached the Boyertown Bear Cubs Junior Legion team. He won numerous league titles, regional and state titles. Mecherly stepped down as the coach in November of 2013, but still spends numerous hours working on the field which bears his name, making sure that it’s one of the best fields, if not the best field, in Berks County.

The manner in which the various “starting brackets” are interconnected to form the resulting winner’s bracket and loser’s bracket, and indeed, the way that these two brackets interact as the tournament progresses, is a fascinating intellectual exercise to me.
