Computer Wizards moved to a bigger location for the third time on July 1.
Owner Chris Breidenstein started the computer services business in his basement in 2001 and later opened a 400-square-foot store at 261 W. Main St. followed by a 1,000-square-foot store at 277 W. Main St. in 2003.
Computer Wizards moved once again to 325 W. Main St. in Kutztown, renovating the 4,000-square-foot space that includes a large show room, separate from shop and offices.
“What’s nice is you can into our shop from the show room. That’s gotten a big response,” he said. “People love that.”
Breidenstein also likes that the bigger space allows them to better showcase products and will allow room to grow in the future.
“As the industry changes, we need to be able to meet demand,” he said. “Business hasn’t dropped off, we get busier every year.”
The additional space helps keep everything better organized, enabling them to complete projects faster.
“We’re busy, we have a lot of work,” he said.
Breidenstein said that Computer Wizards has fixed about 2,500 computers so far this year. Part of the reason for moving to the new location was to be able to meet the demand.
Their goal is good quality service with a shorter waiting time.
Services include virus and spyware removal, computer repair, networking, onsite service, data recovery, password recovery and sales. New services include remote computer repair over the Internet, offsite data back-up system, service contracts, Web design and e-bay sales.
Also, customers will be able to use the store’s computers for desktop publishing projects where they can also print in high quality. He is also considering renting the space upstairs and possibly creating a PC gaming center where area youth can gather.
In a about one year, Breidenstein is also planning to build a clean room where computers can be worked on in a dust-free environment. This will drop the cost of using a clean room from about $1,200 to $3,000 to a reduced cost of about $600 to $1,000.
“We’ll be able to cut the cost a lot for our customers,” he said.
Full-time technicians are systems analyst and programer Jeff McCrea, repair specialist Adam Barscheski and hardware specialist Daren Schnider. New to the team is part-time data recovery specialist John Cusatis. Another member of the team often seen running around Computer Wizards is Marvin the beagle.
Breidenstein hopes to hire specialists in particular fields as the store continues to grow. Computer Wizards is currently accepting resumes for quality technicians.
“The other store was very cramped. [The new store] I think will be good,” he said.
Computer Wizards is located at 325 W. Main St. in Kutztown. For more information, visit www.shopcomputerwizards.com or call 484-646-9064.
