YWCA dedicates new playground
For The Community Connection
At a recent ribbon-cutting and dedication, Louise Koury has been recognized by the YWCA Tri-County Area for her major contributions to the creation and advancement of child care services at the YWCA for more than 25 years.
Ms. Koury started at the YWCA in 1977 as the Creative Play nursery school director, and established the Parent Advisory Committee that guided programming and fundraising for Creative Play Pre-School. In 2004 she transferred to the Hill School to establish the YWCA child care center and continues to serve as the Liaison.
The event was attended by more than 90 family members, friends and staff both past and present who listened to testimonials from co-workers and friends, honoring Louise for her commitment to the children and setting a positive pre-school environment. “Louise creates a warm, loving, and stimulating environment for the children to grow intellectually as well as socially,” said Mary Lou Dougherty, long-time friend and parent.
The Louise Koury Playground is a fun and safe haven for all children participating in the YWCA child care program. “As long as I can remember, Louise has had a vision for this playground,” said Diane Francis, long-time coworker and friend.
The construction of the playground was possible through funding from the Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation, the Non-Profit Finance Fund, Pre-K Counts and Keystone Stars. The playground was purchased through Becker’s School Supplies.
