Basket bingo to benefit Kiki Fox
By Riley Pierson, Times Writer
Rose Fay will be hosting a basket bingo with proceeds benefitting six-year-old Kiara “Kiki” Fox, daughter of Brian and Kim Fox of Douglassville, formerly of Boyertown on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Kiki has been diagnosed with Gangioneuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer.
She recently received a stem cell transplant at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Kiki’s mother, Kim Fox, said, “Kiki is doing better now. There was a complication but she is better.”
Due to the antibody therapy, a six-month clinical trial Kiki is beginning, she will need to be hospitalized every two weeks, Kim said.
“Her personality has changed a little,” Kim said. “She’s not depressed...it’s hard to explain. She’s tired of doctors and people talking about her. She’s beginning to grow some hair back and she’s very excited to go back to school but won’t be until January.”
Fay said she is a friend of a friend of Kiki’s grandfather, James Auman of Boyertown.
“Earlier this year, I was told about Kiki and her family having to travel back and forth to CHOP and I wanted to help,” Fay said.
“I want to help the family with their expenses,” she said. “Kiki’s mother had to take a leave of absence from work and the bills don’t stop for sick children.”
Kim Fox is very grateful for the help.
“I think it is wonderful,” she said. “They hardly even know us. They’re a blessing. I mean Rose is a friend of a coworker of my dad’s.”
The basket bingo will be held at the Elks, 61 High Street in Pottstown on Sunday.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and bingo starts at 1 p.m.
“My oldest daughter, Korrin, and I will be attending,” Fox said.
