Salvation Army Hamburg Christmas program. The Salvation Army Hamburg Service Center will be having their annual Christmas Program for families who are in need or have special circumstances. Residents in the zip codes: 19506, 19507, 19510, 19511, 19516, 19517, 19520, 19522, 19526, 19529, 19530, 19533, 19534, 19536, 19538, 19539, 19541, 19552, 19544, 19555, 19557, 19559, 19562 and 19564 will be eligible for the Christmas program and can pick up an application at The Salvation Army Hamburg Service Center, 29 S. Fourth Street, Hamburg. Deadline for the return of the application is Oct. 21. Food and Angel Tree gifts will be distributed on Dec. 18 and 19 at the Hamburg Field House, to those rsidents who have filled out the forms. Blessings and best wishes for the coming holiday season.

Tire recycling drop off. The Tilden Township Environmental Advisory Committee will be hosting a tire recycling drop off at the township building on Oct. 24 and 25. The recyling is being done in part with the Berks County Solid Waste Authority. Drop off times are as follows: Friday, Oct. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Fleetwood Area Public Library will hold a pre-owned book sale Friday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Library’s headquarters in the Fleetwood Community Center, 110 West Arch St., Fleetwood. Paperbacks, hardcover books, DVD’s and videos for all ages will be available at super-bargain prices. A special preview night for Preferred Patrons is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. For more information about the book sale or the Preferred Patrons Program, contact the librarian at 610-944-0146. Profits from the sale help to support the library’s expansion fund.
Boy Scout Halloween Hallways. Boy Scout Troop 184 of Hamburg plans to kick-start the Halloween season with a special walk-through Halloween Hallways of Horror display the nights of Friday, Oct. 23, through Sunday, Oct. 25. From 7-9 p.m. each night, Scouts will portray various ghouls and freaks in a multi-room haunted house at 310 Independence Drive, in the Kingsgate East development a mile east of Windsor Castle. The haunted house features the ever-growing Halloween collection of Life Scout Casey Schneck and includes life-sized animatronic figures, fog machines, strobe lighting, other special lighting, unique sound effects, hundreds of terrifying accessories, hand-crafted dummies in costume and many other special effects. Rooms of the haunted house include the Hall of Spiders, the Mad Scientist’s Lab, the Torture Chamber, the Bloody Butcher Shop, the Graveyard of No Return and more. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted, with all proceeds going to the Scouts for use in their various Scouting activities.

Oct. 24
Artist Studio/Showroom driving tours. Held from 10 am. to 5 p.m. Oct. 24 and 25, at the Gallery of Hamburg, 335 State Street, Hamburg. A free self-guided driving tour to ten artists’ studios / showrooms – the open houses are offered by members of the Hamburg Area Arts Alliance: visit www.hamburgpa.org for a map guide closer to the time.
Calendar signing. Held from noon to 5 p.m. by local artist Mike Denatale in the Gallery of Hamburg of the new 2010 Hamburg Historic Churches Calendar featuring Denatale’s digital photography of Hamburg’s most historic, religious landmarks. Proceeds benefit the Hamburg Area Arts Alliance.
Chicken pot pie dinner. Held from 3 to 7 p.m. There is a price for adults, 2 and under are free admission. Dine in or take out, at Zion UCC, Strausstown. Sponsored by the senior choir.
Power House Pull 2009. First annual event held at the Kempton Fairgrounds, Kempton. Registration starts at 11 a.m., pulls start at 1 p.m. There is a registration fee and admission fee. Community health screen. The Leesport area, sponsored by Leinbach’s Boy Scout Troop #190, will be sponsoring a community health screen. Health screening is a preventive health program that can determine if you have current or potential health problems. The health screen will be held at Schuylkill Valley Ambulance Association Building., 26 East Wall Street, Leesport, from 7 to 9:30 a.m. There is a cost.
Nov. 1
Breakfast. Held at the Ontelaunee Grange #1617, 284 Oak Lane, Leesport, at 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited.
PA German Service. A ervice will be held at Weisenberg Lutheran Church, 7645 Weisenberg Church Rd, New Tripoli, and will include special music from all ages.
