St. John's U.C.C. holds upbeat All-Saints Day service
St. John’s United Church of Christ, 257 West Walnut St., Kutztown, will hold an All-Saints Day service, which will focus on the joy of life and remembrance. In the New Orleans tradition, festive music will be a part of the celebration.
This year we name and remember: Marie Zimmerman, Bruce Haas, Edith Vanek, and Chad Reidenhour.
We will also remember departed friends and family members. Elders Kris Amey, Vickie Wessner, and Bob Ziegenfus and the pastors, Karl Jones and Nikki Swanson, will lead us in this service.
The Jazz Combo will play a Prelude at 10 a.m. consisting of a medley of traditional jazz songs. This will be followed by the Jazz Band (Big Band) performing the classic jazz tune, “Fidgety Feet.” The Band will be joined by the Kutztown Middle School Band in the opening hymn, “For All the Saints.”
During the service, a new arrangement of “Bringing in the Sheaves” will feature the Jazz Band and soloists, Charlie Schaffer, Carl Zeplin, and Andy Mohler. The outstanding Adult Choir will sing Robert Lau’s, “The Measure of our Days.”
Pastor Karl Jones will preach on “The Living Stuff of Love.” The Service proper will conclude with the entire assemblage joining in on “When the Saints Come Marchin' In.” Dr. Frank Siekmann is the arranger and director.
At the conclusion of the service, the Kutztown Area Middle School Jazz Band will presdent a mini-concert.
