Fleetwood Middle School students presented the musical “Little Mermaid Jr.” this past weekend.
“It is so exciting to see and hear the reactions of the audience as they experience what we have been working on for three months. I loved hearing ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ as they saw costumes for the first time, or the hoots and hollers following a particularly entertaining scene,” said Director, Rebecca Peters, a teacher at Fleetwood Middle School.
Her favorite part of the production was the performances.
“I chose this show because The Little Mermaid is a movie I grew up with. I also saw it on Broadway a few years ago and loved the additional music added to the Broadway show,” “I knew the students had an interest in it as well, so it was an easy choice to make!”
There were about 70 students involved, mostly 7th and 8th graders and some 6th graders students. Typically it is a 7th and 8th grade show but they needed more cast members so 6th graders from Willy Wonka were invited to participate.
“I hope that students learn to love the theater. I also hope that they learn the importance of working as a team, that every part whether it be on stage or behind is critical to the success of a show,” said Peters.
In addition to Peters as the director, the production staff included music director Cyndi Evans and assistant director Michele Rodriguez, “as well as the help from many parents and other staff members volunteering their time to make this show a success.”
