Ryan Seacrest wants off “American Idol,” according to RadarOnline.
The website reports Seacrest is preparing to bail from the show after this season, when his two-season, $30 million contract expires. Seacrest has hosted “American Idol” for 13 seasons.
“Ryan is telling friends that this season of ‘Idol’ is likely to be his last,” an insider reportedly told Radar. “He’s lost the passion for it, and desperately wants to do different things at this point in his career, like produce the Oscars and start developing more of his original ideas.”
Hello William Hung variety show!
Seacrest is also eyeing scaling back his red carpet presence.
This is troubling, indeed.
“Ryan’s reduced role in this year’s Emmys red carpet coverage is a clear move toward a life that involves less hosting and more producing,” the insider said. “He wants to transition to behind the scenes more, and is getting fed up with the ‘interviewing people’ part of his job, when his heart is really in the work he does as a producer.”
“This season of Idol is going to be a real endurance test for Ryan,” the source said.
How inspiring to see that poor, poor man going through all that standing on stage in high-quality clothing, talking to people for a mere pittance of $15 million a season. Excuse me, while I go build a website dedicated to educating people of his ugly plight.
“‘Idol’ is holding him back right now,” the source said, “but it’s also the most money he’s ever been paid for anything, so he has to be a politician about it.”
Hang in there, Ryan. We’re all pulling for you.
