Kutztown High School musicians have been working diligently on their Spring Concert to be held on, Sunday, April 27, 3 p.m. at the Kutztown High School Auditorium. The concert is open to the public, minimal admission fee charges. Five ensembles will be participating in the concert, Concert Choir, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Show Choir, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and the Men’s Vocal Ensemble.

The Choir will be opening their portion of the concert with a powerful, emotional gospel chart, ‘Lean On Me.’ Followed by an exuberant salute to the optimism of youth in a medley of songs from the new Broadway musical, Newsies.’

Continuing with ‘Swingin With The Saints,’ a soulful setting of two classic spirituals, ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot’ combined with ‘When The Saints Go Marching In.’ Closing with ‘An American Tribute,’ a majestic patriotic montage of ‘America, the Beautiful,’ ‘America,’ and ‘The Battle Hymn of the Republic.’

The Show Choir will open with a Latin pop chart recorded by Gloria Estefan, ‘The Best of Miami Sound Machine.’ Slowing down the pace with a 1978 ballad by Kansas, ‘Dust In The Wind.’ Closing their performance with, ‘The Beat Goes On,’ the evolution of Rock ‘n’ Roll with those songs and dances from the 50s to the 90s.

Songs Include: The Beat Goes On, Barbara Ann, Splish Splash, Surf City, The Loco-motion, Where the Boys Are, You’ve Got A Friend, Close To You, Just The Way You Are, Beat It, Material Girl, Flashdance…..What A Feeling, and Twist and Shout!

Soloists will be: Cecily Ryan, Krystal Nolte, Megan Laudenslager, Jennifer Rohrbach, Kiona Peters, Baylee Zimmerman, Rachael Williamson, Kimberly Brazina, Julia Mohn, Michaela Ryan, Brock Rabenold, Alex D’Anna, Colton Cutlip, Josh Mengel, Matthew Gump, David Erb, Mike Heiner, Chris Rarick.

The High School Concert Band will perform 4 songs. The first song is an arrangement by Warren Barker entitled ‘Strike Up The Band.’ The next song, ‘Classical Rondo,’ will feature senior Amanda Miller. Amanda plays the bassoon and has represented Kutztown at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association All-State Music Festival for the last 3 years. The third song, entitled ‘Miss Saigon,’ is a medley of selections from the popular Broadway musical. The final song is E. E.Bagley’s ‘National Emblem March.’

The High School Jazz Band will begin with Andy Farber’s original composition entitled ‘Bling.’ The next song is an arrangement of the Miles Davis standard entitled ‘Blue In Green.’ The final song is a Mark Taylor arrangement based on a standard blues progression entitled ‘Not Yet Over The Hill.’ Soloists will be Jamal Kemp, Tucker Landis, Amanda Miller, and Dane Becker.

The High School Percussion Ensemble will perform two songs, ‘We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions’ arranged and directed by Mr. Tom Siegfried.
