This Saturday evening, July 12, from 7 – 9 p.m., the Borough of Kutztown’s ‘2014 Concert Series in the Park’ will host a new band to our band shell stage. The Mighty Manatees, hailing from the Skippack area of Montgomery County and under the leadership of Will Hodgson, lead singer and band leader, has been performing for over 24 years.
The Mighty Manatees will take the stage to entertain the crowd with their varied repertoire. They bring their unique showmanship, instrumentals, and vocals to the stage in their own unique entertaining way. They play a vast array of music, and styles of music. They play a style of music known as ‘dreadneck’ music, which is a blend of country and reggae, with influences of the blues and rock ‘n roll. They perform all throughout southeastern and eastern Pennsylvania at various venues and community events, and will be performing this summer at the renown Bethlehem MusikFest in August. The 9 piece band with horns, guitars, drums, etc. will play music from Reggae, country blues, folk, funk to standard rock ‘n roll. Since their existence they have had the honor of playing with, and opening for such groups as: America, Commander Cody, The Spin Doctors, Nigel Hall, and U2, and many others.
The group has gone through changes in their 23 years, from name changes to musicians, but have always maintained their reggae style of music influenced by the likes of Bob Marley, Bob Dillon, and Bob Hunter to name a few. The band has become very popular over the years and we are pleased to be able to bring them to Kutztown for our ‘2014 Concert Series in the Park’. Please join us Saturday, July 12th for an enjoyable evening of and leave your worries at home for the night.
The concert is free to the public and is part of the Borough of Kutztown ‘2014 Concert Series in the Park’, and will be held rain or shine in the covered Kutztown Park Bandshell.
