Garden Spot Village invites the public to enjoy musical entertainment with the return of the community’s popular Saturday Evening Concert Series.

The new season opens on Saturday, Nov. 15, with a performance of “We Remember: A Concert to Celebrate the Inner Life of Anne Frank” by Daphne Alderson, contralto, and Norma Meyer on piano.

“We are blessed to be able to offer a program of this exceptional quality, and we extend a warm invitation to our friends and neighbors from throughout the eastern Lancaster County Community to join us for this special evening,” said Colleen Musselman, director of life enrichment at the retirement community.

“We Remember” commemorates the life of Anne Frank, whose famous diary documents her family’s attempts to escape the Holocaust, and the music of her lifetime. The program features Michael Cohen and Enid Futterman’s “I Remember”, a contemporary cantata originally commissioned for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Chamber Music Series in 1996. The evening’s program also includes selections by Gustav Mahler, Kurt Weill and others.

Alderson, a lyric contralto, is a diverse performer whose repertoire includes opera, chamber music, oratorio and cabaret. She has appeared at venues throughout the Northeast, including Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and the Whittaker Center for the Performing Arts in Harrisburg. She was a featured artist at the Center for American Music at the International Poetry Forum in Pittsburgh and Artist in Residence for the University of Virginia Seminar at Sea. A resident of Pittsburgh, Alderson is association professor of voice and director of the opera workshop at Seton Hill University.

Norma Meyer, pianist-conductor, is a founding member and general manager of Piano4, a four-piano quartet based in Philadelphia. She has toured with Piano4 throughout the United States since 2001, including performances at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and Carnegie Hall in New York City. She is also a member of the Ranaan Meyer Band. A graduate of the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, she holds degrees in piano performance from Philadelphia Musical Academy and Temple University.

Other upcoming concerts in the series at Garden Spot Village include the Keystone Brass Quintet performing a Christmas concert on Dec. 20; an organ serenade by Margaret Marsch on Jan. 17; a vocal performance by the Red Rose Chorus on Feb. 21; the Hooley School of Irish Dance on March 21 and the Lancaster Bible College Chamber Singers on April 18.

All concerts begin at 7 p.m. in the chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave. The concerts are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door.
