Tulpehocken Jr./Sr. High School will present its fall play on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21 and 22, in the auditorium at the school on New Schaefferstown Road. This year’s offering promises to continue the zany take on classics begun with last year’s “Shakespeare Shenanigans,” and once again age-old stories will be seen in a novel light.

“Circus Olympus: A Mythical Comedy in Two Acts” by Lindsay Price centers on a motley group of circus performers, The Greek Geeks, who love to act out the ancient myths of gods and goddesses. From the story of Hades and Persephone to the bravery of Perseus in slaying the fearsome Gorgon Medusa, many of the stories are familiar ones, but the Greek Geeks give them their own special twist.

Although the Greek and Roman gods may no longer hold a central spot in the school curriculum, their stories have taken on new life in recent years with the publication of the Percy Jackson books and the movies based on them, such as “The Lightning Thief.”

This is the seventh fall play for director Ms. Susan Behm, who has been working with the 30 or so cast and crew members since early September. She enjoys the enthusiasm of the different types of students who audition each year and points out that being involved in theatre is a rewarding outlet for them. Her assistant director is Mr. Reid Mosley, and this is his second fall play production. Both Behm and Mosley are English teachers in the Tulpehocken School District and enjoy seeing the students show unexpected facets of their personalities on-stage.

The play begins at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Tickets will be sold at the door.
