ReadingFilm, a GoGreater Reading program, is pleased to announce the latest in its ever-growing list of free screening premieres of films shot in Greater Reading or by filmmakers with ties to Reading. The upcoming film, American Standard, is both.

On Saturday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m., in collaboration with our presenting partner, Reading Movies 11 & IMAX, ReadingFilm will present a free screening of the new short film by Reading native, Justen Patrick Lander. Lander, a Wyomissing High School graduate, returned this fall, from the California Bay area where he resides with his family, to film American Standard. At least one of the movie locations will be very familiar to the local community. You’ll have to come to the screening to find out which one and it’s not the one you think (Pagoda)!

The poignant story centers around Edward Bracket, who nine years earlier, awoke to find himself in a nursing home. Since that day, no one has been to visit him and all he has left is a photo album and a longing to relive the past.

Inspired by his personal family experience, Lander is glad he can come home to tell this story. In fact, Lander is so committed to his hometown as a film location, that he plans to shoot all of his films here. His first feature film, which will be shot throughout Berks County, is currently being developed. Besides, shooting here, Lander casts and contracts local actors and crew. The American Standard cast features local actors: Bruce McLean as Edward Bracket, Diann Stewart as Miss Edelson, Chuck Gallagher as George and Lisa Uliasz as George’s daughter. Local crew includes cinematography by Sebastien Nieves, 1st Assistant Director, Andrew Pochan and 2nd AD/Production Coordinator, Kelly Beiler.

The 18 minute film screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker. Tickets are free but must be reserved by picking them up at the theatre box office before or on the day of the screening. For more information, click on the event’s Facebook page.
