An evening of Bluegrass music featuring The Blades of Grass will be held at the Fivepointville Fire Hall, Route 897 in Fivepointville on Saturday, Feb. 7.
The Blades of Grass was formed in 2005 in southern Chester County. They have a wide range of traditional and contemporary bluegrass songs that has compiled from their years of singing and playing. They strive to reach out to the audiences with their solid rhythm and tight vocal harmonies.
Jeff Blevins started playing guitar at the age of 9. A short time later he took up playing the bass and at first he had to stand on a milk crate to reach the fingerboard. At the age of 13 he started to play lead guitar and later the mandolin and fiddle. He found his true love when he started to play banjo some 20 years ago. He has played in bands such as: The Mike Dillard Band, Sunnyside and the Mason Dixon Grass. Jeff gives a lot of credit to Billy Lee Cox for sharing his banjo knowledge with him.
Growing up, there was always music in Kevin Nutter’s family. His mother taught him how to play the organ and sing vocal harmonies, typically on gospel tunes. Later Kevin was drawn to stringed instruments. His father bought him his first mandolin. Over the years, Kevin spent many enjoyable hours picking and singing bluegrass and old time country tunes with his brother and friends. He and Jeff Blevins did some jamming, Jeff asked if he would like to be part of a band and before long The Blades of Grass was formed.
Mike Dillard is no stranger to the Bluegrass community. Raised in North Carolina, he eventually moved to Pennsylvania and joined The Wings of Bluegrass. Mike also has played with Plain & Fancy, The Stanleytones and The Mike Dillard Band. He plays guitar, bass and mandolin and is a talented songwriter having written songs for The Bluegrass Brothers.
Jeff Dillard has been a bluegrass music fan since he was a small boy. He has travelled to many Bluegrass festivals with his family and lists his father, Mike Dillard, as one of his biggest musical influences. It was his father that introduced him to the Stanley sound. When he isn’t playing the upright bass you can find him hanging out with friends at his favorite fishing hole!
