Studio B, 39A East Philadelphia Avenue in Boyertown, Pa., is pleased to announce Amanda C. Burdan, Ph.D., Associate Curator for the Brandywine River Museum of Art, as juror for “The Modern Farm”, the studio’s 7th annual show featuring the area’s agricultural roots.

The exhibit opens Jan. 16, with a reception from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Prizes will be awarded on Friday night, including the coveted “Best In Show,” which nets the winner a cash prize as well as a featured spot during next year’s “December Members and Friends” exhibit. The show continues through February 14, 2015. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public. Please visit studiobbb.org for more information.

“Studio B’s January exhibit The Farm is one of our most popular show,” notes gallery director Susan Biebuyck. “It offers a broad spectrum of fresh takes on the traditional subjects of agriculture and farming while saluting our agricultural roots, paying tribute to our area’s natural beauty in creative ways. This year we are encouraging artists to express on the subject of “The Modern Farm”. We are eager to see the many ways our artists are inspired to paint, sculpt, or photograph in a Modern way.

Biebuyck continued, “”In an unexpected note, Amanda is currently working on an exhibition Rural Modernism for Brandywine River Museum that will examine the spread of modernist styles from New York City to other regions and areas of America and include works of major American Modernists produced in out-of-the-way areas as well as the regional artists that were influenced by that work.”

Burdan earned both her master’s and Ph.D. degrees in History of Art and Architecture at Brown University. Prior to her current assignment, she served as Assistant Curator at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, Connecticut, worked in the curatorial departments of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art, held visiting assistant professorships at Connecticut College and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, and taught courses on American art, European Modernism and related topics at a number of colleges, universities, and art museums.
