Garden Spot Village invites the public to enjoy a classical vocal concert when it hosts the Chamber Singers of Lancaster Bible College under the direction of Dr. Robert Bigley on Saturday, April 18, in the final performance of this season’s Saturday Evening Concert Series.
On the heels of their successful concert tour of Ireland, the Chamber Singers will perform a program titled Bionn, siulach scealach, or “Travelers Have Tales to Tell.” It is a collection of a cappella masterpieces from both sides of the Atlantic.
“We have been blessed to be able to enjoy some tremendously talented performers this season, and we hope our neighbors from the community at large will share this entertainment experience with us,” said Colleen Musselman, director of life enrichment at Garden Spot Village.
Founded in 2007, the Chamber Singers of Lancaster Bible College perform a repertoire that spans multiple styles, from Renaissance choral masterpieces to world music and vocal jazz. Concerts have included guest appearances with modern Irish hymn writers Keith and Kristyn Getty, and Dove Award-winning artist Kathy Troccoli, as well as tours throughout the Northeast, Spain, Ireland and China. They were also featured in “Voices of Hope” at the Fulton Opera House, where they shared the stage with several Metropolitan Opera stars. Known for their versatility, the Chamber Singers often collaborate with other musical groups, including an appearance on the Christmas album of the metalcore band August Burns Red.
Robert Bigley, music director, joined the faculty at Lancaster Bible College in the fall of 2007. He serves as director of choral activities and executive director of the Trust Performing Arts Center. He holds a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Washington.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. It is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door.
