Steel River Playhouse, Pottstown, is hosting a free Educational Open House to kick off its 2015-2016 school year on Saturday, Aug. 29 and Sunday, Aug. 30. Festivities take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Light refreshments will be served.
Each day’s presentation will cover the same material over the two-hour event time, so attendees may choose one of the two days. Our new Education Director, Aileen McCulloch, will be introduced and you’ll have an opportunity to chat with her about her plans for classes this year.
An introduction will also take place at the top of the day, with brief performances by our instructors to show that they can do it.
After a tour of the facility, participants will then get to “try-it” in group lessons to find that they can “do it” too! Group “try it” sessions will be offered in: vocals, improv/acting and Broadway dance during the open house. Many other classes will be available during the year. Finally, a question and answer will be presented to help parents with registration and fee questions at the end of the session.
Solo instructors will also be on hand to answer questions about individual study in Solo instructors will also be on hand to meet students who wish to solo study in voice, piano, guitar, trumpet and more! Prospective solo study students are encouraged to bring their instruments and pertinent questions to ask the faculty. The Open House is free and open to the public.
Steel River will offer three 12-week semesters in fall, winter and spring. The company has also made many changes to the registration process and payment options! In addition to an outstanding solo study program, group classes will be offered in Improv, Acting, Vocal work and more, with classes available from Pre-K to 12th grade and adults! A new dance for the actor/singer program will provide an introduction to dance for actors who want to be a triple threat when they audition, or just to get them comfortable moving on stage for their next show.
Students are encouraged to enroll for the whole year with the option to try a different study area each semester, or continue in a specific line of study all year long. Workshop productions that culminate in performance will also be offered ALL year this year in the education department. Solo students will also be encouraged to perform regularly, in three different recitals.
