Full time artist and Boyertown local Kay Youse currently has her art work featured in a gallery at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education in Wyomissing. The grand opening was this past Sept. 11, and the public had the opportunity to come look at, and even purchase her pieces.

With nearly 100 pieces by Youse featured in the exhibit, the opening was a roaring success. When asked about the overall outcome, she said, “Oh I don’t even know, this place was packed.”

Every artist feels differently about what happens to their work when put on display, but Youse is content with all of her pieces being purchased by the public.

When asked who she has to thank for the success of the exhibit, she said the people that work with the Yocum Institute for Arts Education of course, but also credits her good friend Ronda.

Youse explained that she showed her archive of artwork to Ronda, in which she then proceeded to divide them into three piles. The first stack of artwork was the pieces she should fix up first, the second was the next priority pieces to work on, and the third Youse said that Ronda told her, “‘don’t look at it until you need more.”

“I owe it to my friend Ronda for having this many paintings, because I thought a lot of these were junk” said Youse.

With nature and flowers being her inspiration, Youse tends to mainly produce portraits. With that being her specialty, she believes that, “(It’s) the best way to learn to draw and paint.”

Although she may not have as large as an exhibit as this recent one, she will always have art in her life. Every day Youse tries getting some form of art in whether it is working in her sketch book, reading, or observing others paintings.

The exhibit will be up and open to the public for viewing and purchases until Oct. 17.
