One of Boyertown’s favorite Parks and Rec events will be happening this Saturday (Sunday if it rains). The 8th Annual Turning Leaf Fall Festival kicks off with the Boyertown Rotary’s Fall Frolic 5K run/walk that will take off from the Rohrbach Pavillion at 8:15 a.m. Runners return to the park for the awarding of awards, then Turning Leaf swirls away from there.

The all-volunteer committee and staff have worked through most of 2015, planning and preparing for this year’s event. There is plenty of parking available at the Junior High (asking for a $2 donation that will go to Parks & Rec and the ROTC). Doors open at 10 a.m. and, as always, admission to Turning Leaf is free, but a small fee may be charged for some of the activities. Live music kicks off at 11 a.m. with the Special Guest Villians (former members of BHB) and will continue on the two music stages throughout the day.

Let the music roll you down into shade of the giant trees to find activities like pumpkin painting and scarecrow building. Keep an eye out for Turning Leaf’s Mascot and grab a photo-op so you can remember your adventure at the park.

Vendors and crafters will line the trail, showing off their wares and talents. Come hungry or walk up an appetite because there will be food. Just follow your nose. All of your favorite fair foods will be there. Make your own caramel apple or grab some of those delicious Dallas French Fries. The Eats House will be in the park serving up their tasty morsels too!

There will be new critters in the park, as Turning Leaf has added some alpacas and pigs into the mix of things to see and do.

In an effort to make Boyertown THE place to be this weekend, Turning Leaf Fall Festival and Pickfest have cooperated and coordinated events to maximize the experience for everyone. Pickfest will be held in the railyard at Third and Washington featuring all day music, food and adult beverages. Free shuttles will travel back and forth between the two locations all day.

Another new, old feature returning to Turning Leaf is the campfire. From 6 to 7 p.m., come sing along with Steve Walker and enjoy other campfire activities.

All in all, Oct. 17 should be an awesome day in the park and an awesome day in Boyertown. Turning Leaf’s rain date is Sunday, Oct. 18. A large portion of the proceeds return to fund not only Turning Leaf, but the many Boyertown Parks and Rec activities throughout the year.
