A filmmaker born and raised in Reading, a Central Catholic alumna and Head of Cinematography at USC School of Cinematic Arts will be screening her feature documentary You See Me at the ReadingFilmFEST in the “Made in Reading” series Saturday, Nov. 14, at 5:30 p.m. in the Gogglworks Theater.

“My film is an intimate, first person account of my family’s (also born and raised in Reading) struggle to deal with trauma, loss and grief after my father, Stanley suffered a debilitating stroke,” said Linda J. Brown, Producer/Director. “In addition to the obvious topic of stroke it, touches on issues of caregiving, domestic violence, end of life issues and mental health.”

According to the film synopsis at http://youseememovie.com/, “Filmmaker Linda Brown’s father embodied 1960s masculinity. But when a devastating stroke leaves him vulnerable and dependent, Linda decides to confront the silence surrounding his troubled and violent past. Drawing on home movies, family photos and interviews, she reveals secrets, uncovers lies, and discovers a redeeming treasure in a lost family video. The result is an engrossing journey about the danger of carrying unresolved grief to our graves. You See Me is a brave, inspiring and empowering film that documents the essence of the human condition and seeks to face the past with courage in order to change the future.”

Her 90 year old mother Natalie Brown, a central subject in the film, as well her sister Nancy Lambert, an instructor at RACC, and other members of her family will attend and participate in the post screening Q & A.

“Many of the health care professionals who compassionately cared for my father, including his cardiologist Dr. Charles Minehart, are also in the film,” said Brown. “I’m especially excited to have my mother present because at all the screenings audience members have wanted desperately to meet her. How fortunate the Reading audience will be to have her there to participate in the Q & A.”

You See Me premiered at Dances With Films in LA and is traveling the festival circuit with national screenings at DocUtah, Real to Reel International and Ojai Film Festivals and international screenings in Korea, Malaysia and Singapore.
