Meal choices made by the modern American are causing a health crisis affecting the entire country, which is why the Reading Public Museum is hosting the exhibition, Eat Well, Play Well. This highly interactive exhibit teaches children and adults fun and interesting ways to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. The exhibit is open Jan. 30, 2016 through May 1, 2016 in The Museum’s Meinig Family Gallery and First Floor Science Gallery.
The exhibit includes more than 20 activity stations designed to teach visitors about maintaining a healthy lifestyle at an early age. Activities include a Balance Challenge, where visitors can test family members to see who can balance the longest; Bike Pedaling, to see how long it takes to burn off calories from certain snacks; an Electronic Jump Rope game, and many more!
Ryan Redner, Chief Operating Officer of Redner’s Warehouse Markets, the company that is locally sponsoring the exhibit, said, “Redner’s believes that good nutrition starts by making smart choices at the grocery store. With Eat Well, Play Well, we can show children how to make healthy food choices fit within their active lifestyle through a fun, interactive exhibit. I believe that a program such as this is the key to creating a lifestyle of good health and wellness for our future generations.”
Eat Well, Play Well was produced and is toured by the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI). This exhibit was made possible by a Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) grant from the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and is sponsored locally by Redner’s Warehouse Markets.
