In celebration of Peter Brye’s final season as Founding Conductor and Music Director of the Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra, the RSO presents the first ever RSYO/RSJSO Fall Concert. The concert will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. at Berks Catholic High School. Featuring both the Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO) and the Reading Symphony Junior String Orchestra (RSJSO), this concert will feature many popular favorites for all ages and will be a fun event for the whole family. The RSJSO will open the program and will perform several selections including Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens and the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky. The RSJSO Chamber Orchestra will perform two movements from the famous “Bach Double” concerto (Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor). The RSYO’s selections will include “Air” from Orchestral Suite No. 3 by Bach, “Farandole” from L’Arlesienne Suite No. 1 by Bizet, music from Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean, among other works.

Since 1989, the Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO) has been serving the community as part of the mission of the Reading Symphony Orchestra. Hundreds of young musicians from the region have gained the experience of performing classical orchestral music of the highest caliber. The orchestra is a project of the Education Committee of the Reading Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors. Peter Brye serves as music director. The RSYO is in its 27th season.

The Reading Symphony Junior String Orchestra (RSJSO), formed in 1999, was founded with the purpose of providing a training group or the RSYO. It gives young talented string students of Berks County and surrounding areas an opportunity to perform music with other outstanding string players. The RSJSO has received ratings of “superior” in the past several years for their performances at the Music in the Park Festivals at Hershey Park. There are currently 87 members involved. The RSJSO is in its 16th season.
