Street corner harmony, the music commonly referred to as “Doo-wop,” has stood the test of time like no other genre of music ever did. This music became popular in the mid to late 1950s, and here it is 55 plus years later still as popular as ever.
On Saturday, Nov. 14, Davenport Performing Arts Center at Pottstown High School will be hosting “The Doo-wop Show of The Fall Season,” billed as a Veterans Day show as all the November shows are. It is for the music and to honor those currently serving and our Veterans as well.
Tom Coyle started producing these shows in 2007 and continues to do them every spring and fall. People attend from Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New York, New Jersey and all over Pennsylvania. At the Bobby Rydell show two years ago, a couple came from Ontario, Canada. The shows are not just for locals. People come from all over to see them and attend the after concert DJ dance party that is held at The Elks on High Street.
Appearing at this event will be The Knockouts, The Capris, The Marcels, Johnny Farina, Lenny Welch, The Duprees and Philly a capella greats Quiet Storm.
For you Doo-wop fans, this is a show you don’t want to miss. Come out and take a magical musical ride back in time. You will be sitting in your seat singing along to all the great hits that will be presented on stage. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m. The DJ dance party starts at 9 p.m. 98.1 WOGL Musical Director Tommy McCarthy will emcee the show.
