The historic Welkinweir Estate is opening its doors to the public for a festive Holiday Open House on Friday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The estate house will be decorated in holiday splendor for all to enjoy! Celebrate the season with joyful music from the estate’s newly restored pipe organ; glimpse the public garden and wintry views of forests and ponds from inside the warm estate; and learn about the history of the estate, which spans three centuries. Marsh Creek Tree Farm (www.marshcreektree.com) has donated a Canaan Fir to deck our halls. Holiday decorations are courtesy of Conestoga Garden Club, Owen J. Roberts High School Horticulture class, Philadelphia Unit of the Herb Society of America and Green Valleys Watershed Association members.

Welkinweir is a historic estate, arboretum and nature sanctuary located one mile west of Route 100 at 1368 Prizer Road in rural East Nantmeal Township, Chester County. It is the home of Green Valleys Watershed Association, a non-profit organization whose mission is to protect, preserve and restore the natural waterways of northern Chester County. Originally the home of founding members Everett and Grace Rodebaugh, the 197 acres of permanently preserved land feature a 55 acre arboretum and diverse wetland, meadows and forest habitat. The property hosts environmental education programs and an ever-growing collection of sustainability demonstration projects.
