The opening reception for the some things looming Fiber Arts Gallery’s Handmade Holidays 6 will celebrate small business by recognizing the many artists offering unique gifts of wood, ceramic and fiber. The event runs from Saturday, Nov. 28 through Wednesday, Dec. 23.
The opening reception on Sat., Nov. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. not only kicks off the holiday season, but is being held on Small Business Saturday.
Rebekah Ritter, gallery managing director, said harpist Anna Fitzpatrick will offer special holiday music. Refreshments will be available, as well as gift wrapping. Free parking at city garages is offered on Nov. 28 and on other December Saturdays.
Every holiday season, some things looming’s entire 500 sq. ft. exhibit area is devoted exclusively to Handmade Holidays 6. “We are amazed at how much this event has grown for us and the recognition its brings to ours and other small businesses, including many of our artists. Plus, visitors have a special opportunity to buy reasonably priced, one-of-a-kind presents,” said Ritter.
Special holiday hours for Handmade Holidays 6 are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tues. through Sat. The gallery will not be open from Dec. 24 to Jan. 4, 2016. Exchanges can be made the week of Jan. 6.
This year’s artists accepted for the show include Cynthia Baker, Willow Street; Wendy Edsall-Kerwin, Elizabethtown; Susan Fitzpatrick, Mohnton; Leslie Friedman, Merion; Christa Hirneisen, Blandon; Holly and Jim Lewis, Morgantown; Kathy Makransky, Holland; Claire Marcus, Bethlehem; Kachina Martin and Sheila Shuman, Reading.
Marjorie Puryear, South Dartmouth, Mass.; Theodore Rasmussen, Lancaster; Martha Ressler, Hamburg; Denise Romano Romano Bright, Sellersville; Laurel Schwass-Drew, Philadelphia; and Teresa Shields, Jenkintown. Ritter also has work in the show.
Fitzpatrick has been trained on both the Celtic and pedal harps, and plays a variety of music, including traditional Irish pieces, classical works, show tunes and sacred music. She has played with orchestras in the past, as well as a harp ensemble, and continues to provide music for weddings and special events.
Ritter said, “Her holiday selections just for the gallery will lift spirits and start preparing us for the holidays.”
The mission of some things looming is to create a thriving, viable community for the fiber arts and artist in Berks County and beyond. some things looming contains a gallery, boutique, studios, community spaces, classrooms, networking resources and a library.
