“Ideas For Better Living,” including designs for that home remodeling project you’ve always dreamed of, fun-filled activities for adults and children, entertaining shows and dozens of exhibits all are part of the brand new, entirely free Pottstown Family and Home Expo, scheduled for March 4 to 6 at the Coventry Mall located at 351 West Schuylkill Road in North Coventry Township.

The three-day event, sponsored by the NARI-BIE – Building Industries Exchange of Pottstown and Vicinity, is open to the public without an admission fee and involves convenient nearby parking and well-lit lots after the sun goes down.

Covering about 30,000 square feet, as much space as 17 typically-sized homes, the Pottstown Family and Home Expo will be filled with sights and sounds to delight the senses. It promises to awaken the late winter spirit of the interior decorator, the patient gardener, the master chef, the technology whiz and the little kid inside of all of us.

The Pottstown Family and Home Expo represents a far different take on the crop of seasonal home shows known to pop up in early spring. The leaders of NARI-BIE have re-imagined their member-driven event as one that engages and attracts visitors with interaction, audience participation and an all-around good time.

Also, the expo’s hours accommodate the whole family: Friday, March 4 from 2 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, March 6 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. That makes it easy to cruise the aisles of the show in one visit, on a single day or during several trips.

Scheduled entertainment gives visitors even more reason to return daily.

On Friday, four professional bakers will decorate cakes right before your eyes in a contest being billed as Pottstown “FROSTS.” Votes from the audience will be a part of the final pick. The winner will be announced at the close of events on Sunday.

On Saturday, watch local tae kwon do students demonstrate their martial arts skills and mastery in the afternoon. Take home an amusingly-shaped balloon sculpture on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon, and meet the most adorable and adoptable cats and kittens throughout the whole weekend at the booth of Cat NAPS of Pottstown, a local feline rescue.

On Sunday, the mood turns all things culinary, as the expo introduces its Pottstown “CHOPS” Contest. The competition is modeled after the similarly titled popular television show but features local restaurant chefs. They’ll be under the crunch of time to prepare a great meal with baskets of curious pairings as secret ingredients.

The Pottstown Family and Home Expo is sure to be exciting, interesting, laugh-inducing and yes, chock-full of ideas for better living. It’s all free, March 4 to 6 at the Coventry Mall near routes 100 and 724.
