It’s blustery February and along with the cold comes an annual heart-warming event. Historic Joanna Furnace opens her 2016 event schedule with the annual Valentine’s Breakfast Buffet. For more than 15 years, Joanna Furnace has hosted thousands of families to this delicious Valentine’s Day all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet. Put a new twist on Valentine’s Day for you, your valentine and perhaps even the rest of the family. This year, consider starting your Valentine’s celebration by starting the day with a delicious breakfast at Joanna Furnace and then ending your day with your Valentine going to your favorite dinner spot.

“This event is so appropriate as a Valentine’s Day destination,” said Mark Zerr, Executive Director for Joanna Furnace and the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association. “The story of Joanna Furnace is a love story in and of itself. You see, John Potts, one of the first owners of the iron furnace, lovingly named the plantation after his wife, Joanna, in 1791. After all the different owners and changes and 225 years, her name still remains.”

Imagine enjoying a breakfast reminiscent of the breakfasts served in the historic furnace mansion. The menu consists of fresh country sausage, ham, scrapple, bacon, creamed chipped beef, eggs, pancakes, hash browns, toast, coffee, juice and fresh fruit accompanied by a fabulous chocolate dip.

This extraordinary menu awaits area Valentine’s Day celebrants at the 2016 Valentine’s Day Breakfast Buffet at Historic Joanna Furnace. Because of the popularity of this event, the hours have been expanded. Saturday, Feb. 13 from 7 a.m. to 12 noon, visit Historic Joanna Furnace and indulge in this delicious chocolate enhanced menu.

“We have something for everyone in the family, including the kids,” said Zerr. “The merriment of families starting off their Valentine’s Day brings something special to the Valentine’s breakfast, as does our chocolate fountain. It not only looks delicious and tastes great but the chocolate aroma makes it even more tempting. And, it will make the kids literally beg to eat fruit, fresh strawberries and pineapple, after they dip these healthy items into the chocolate. I think we’ve found the perfect way to get kids to eat fruit… They love it.”

The Valentine ambiance will be enhanced by Berks area vocalist Phyllis Hummel. She will entertain the breakfast diners with her acoustic guitar and a variety of romantic ballads. Ms. Hummel is a familiar face to the local music scene. She has been performing for more than 20 years in the Tri-County area and has been featured performer at many the area’s finer establishments.

No reservations are required for the breakfast buffet. Children are welcome. For cost and information, visit www.haycreek.org.

The site is just off Route 10, three miles north of Morgantown. Turn on Furnace Road. Free parking is on site. Bring your Valentine(s) and bring your appetite.
