Albright College, in collaboration with the Reading Theater Project, will present Patriotic, Iowa, an original play by assistant theatre professor Matt Fotis, Ph.D., on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m., in Albright’s Roop Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

Directed by Joel Lesher, Patriotic, Iowa tells the story of what it means to be an American. The mayor of the small town of Patriotic, Iowa, has just died, leaving the fate of the town’s biggest employer up in the air. Can a recently fired teacher turned diner waitress win the mayoral runoff and save the town?

Fotis teaches improvisation, acting and writing for performance at Albright. His plays have won the Mark Twain Prize for Comic Playwriting, University of Central Missouri’s Theatre for Young Audiences National Playwriting Competition, and the Sonoma County Repertory Theatre’s New Play Competition. His work has been produced or developed at such places as The Lark, The Playwrights’ Center and The Kennedy Center. In addition to his work with Albright’s Domino Players, Fotis runs Albright Improv and the Children’s Theatre of Albright.

Roop Hall is located in the Center for the Arts on the Albright College campus at 13th and Bern streets, Reading.
