More than 140 people attended the Honey Brook Community Library’s first Beef & Brew event on Friday, April 22, at Honey Brook Lions Club. Locals enjoyed a meal of “all you can eat” hot beef sandwiches, coleslaw, pasta salad, Herr’s snacks, home baked desserts and draft beer. Everyone in attendance enjoyed listening and dancing to classic rock favorites from 7 p.m. to midnight by local band, Voodoo Cadillac. Area businesses contributed items to raffle off, and 50/50 chances were sold to raise extra money. More than $2,700 was raised for the Library.
Many people don’t realize that library funding primarily comes from annual donor giving and fundraisers. Government sources only account for 35 percent of library funding. This is why many libraries depend on gifts, donations, etc. Honey Brook Community Library, though seemingly small in size, runs 225 programs throughout the year for people of all ages.

Honey Brook Community Library hopes to run another Beef & Brew next year around the same time since this was a huge success. Stay tuned for the next fundraiser when Honey Brook Community Library partners with the borough as part of annual Honey Brook Harmony Day, on Sept. 17. Residents can rent yard sale spots on the Library front lawn, enjoy Honey Brook Lions Club food truck fare and buy raffle tickets for the annual Quilt Raffle of a beautiful locally made quilt.
