DOUGLASSVILLE >> The Mouns Jones 300th Anniversary will be celebrated by the Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County with an exciting living history event at Morlatton Village. Costumed volunteers will demonstrate a variety of eighteenth and early nineteenth century crafts and trades and visitors can enjoy tours of the buildings in Morlatton Village. There will also be hands-on activities for children and their families to enjoy.

Morlatton Village will come alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Volunteers will demonstrate a variety of crafts and trades including textile processing, hearth cooking, and leatherworking. There will also be ongoing presentations on colonial clothing and eighteenth century gun building.

Several of the buildings in the Village will be open for tours, including the White Horse Inn, the George Douglass House, and the Michael Fulp House. There will also be fun, fall themed activities for children and their families including pumpkin and face painting.

Also ongoing throughout the day, Michael Barnett and Ted Hallman will give an amended version of their presentation from the gala dinner the night before, “Creating Amity in New Sweden Colony and Morlatton Village: The Native Legacy of Sven Gunnarrson, Gertrude Svensdotter and Jonas Nilsson, and Mouns Jones and Ingeborg Lycon.”

Hallman is a descendent of Mouns Jones and their presentation will look at Mouns Jones and Ingeborg Lycon, as well as their families, and how they lived among the Lenape and Susquehannocks in the Delaware and Schuylkill River regions.

Don’t forget to stop by the White Horse Inn where visitors can enjoy a light lunch in the authentic tavern atmosphere. In the bar room, Ridgewood Winery will be offering complimentary wine tastings. Also in the White Horse, the Amity Colonial Dancers will demonstrate several colonial and Early American dances and visitors can even join in!

Admission is a $10 per person suggested donation. Trust members and children 12 and under are free. Wine tastings will be limited to visitors 21 and older. Rain or shine. Light lunch items and baked goods will be available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the Trust. For more information, go to www.historicpreservationtrust.org
