The Reading Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro Andrew Constantine, celebrates Mozart’s birthday month on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Santander Performing Arts Center.

RSO principal flutist Yevgeny Faniuk is spotlighted in Mozart’s three movement Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major, written in 1778. Yevgeny describes the piece as “melodically memorable and virtuosically demanding of any soloist.” Also on the program is Tchaikovsky’s Suite No. 4 in G major, Op. 61, “Mozartiana,” an arrangement of four of Mozart’s works; and Mozart’s Symphony No. 35, “Haffner.”

Yevgeny also gives a masterclass for select area music students on Saturday, January 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $5 for adults.

Additional RSO performances in the 2016-17 season include An Evening of Beethoven on March 4 with pianist Fabio Bidini, violinist Sabrina Hopcker, and cellist Andrew Shulman; and The World of Shakespeare on April 29; as well as Pops performances — Hot Latin Nights! with the Mambo Kings on Feb. 11. The RSO presents The Messiah on April 2 at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church featuring local community members as soloists.

About Yevgeny FaniukYevgeny Faniuk enjoys a rich and a versatile career as an orchestral and chamber musician in the New York City metropolitan area. A frequent guest member with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the New York City Ballet, he plays principal flute with the Reading Symphony Orchestra and performs regularly with the Albany Symphony and Princeton Symphony Orchestra. He is also currently a principal flutist with the Glimmerglass Festival Orchestra in Cooperstown, New York. Yevgeny has also performed as a substitute musician with the Israel Philharmonic and the Russian National Orchestras.

Yevgeny has been a prize winner of numerous competitions, including the Flute Talk Competition and the New York Flute Club Competition in the United States. In Israel, Yevgeny received the first prize at the 1st Haifa International Flute Competition, won the prestigious Rubin Academy of Music Competition in Tel Aviv, and received a top prize in the Jerusalem Young Artist Competitions, as well as an honorable mention at the Paul Ben Haim Israeli Music Competition..
