pottstown >> “Clybourne Park,” a play by Bruce Norris and directed by Rebecca May Flowers opens Friday, Feb. 3, at Steel River Playhouse and runs through Sunday, Feb.19, with a total of 11 performances to choose from, including four matinees.

The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning drama is a wickedly funny and fiercely provocative play that deals with race, real estate, and the volatile values of each. It spans 50 years between each explosive act.

Act One opens in 1959, as a white couple sells their home to a black family (the Younger family in A Raisin In The Sun), causing uproar in their middle-class neighborhood. Act Two finds the same house, in 2009, changing hands again. And, while the stakes have changed over the years, the debate remains strikingly similar as neighbors wage a hilarious and horrifying pitched battle over territory and legacy that reveals just how far our ideas about race and gentrification have evolved – or, have they?

Clybourne Park won the 2011 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play, along with the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 2012 Tony Award for Best Play, among other honors.

The cast: Russ/Dan (Marc Schule), Bev/Kathy (Allison Fisher), Francine/Lena (Tia Chanel), Jim/Tom (Christopher Waters), Albert/Kevin (Jerry McGrier), Karl/Steve (Joe Donley), and Betsy/Lindsey (Lauren Salvo).
