There will be an Opening Reception for the exhibit on March 17, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Yocum Institute Gallery located at 1100 Belmont Ave, Wyomissing.

Janet Henshaw grew up at the Landis Store Hotel, a grocery store and bar in Boyertown. She started sewing in grade school, making clothes, for her sisters, mother, friends, and self in the back room of the store, in-between waiting on customers. Henshaw continued to sew for her home education teacher in High School before graduating from Brandywine High School.

In 1970, Henshaw’s parents closed the grocery store, added tables and started the restaurant. In 1975, Henshaw and her husband took over the restaurant Landis Store Hotel from her parents. During this time, sewing took a backseat until the year 2000 when Henshaw purchase a new sewing machine and began quilting. Her quilts can be seen in the Quilt Room in the Landis Store Hotel where they are available for purchase.

Janet has several ribbons from various quilt shows and her quilt “Flowers for My Valentine” is in the book 500 Traditional Quilts from the International Quilt Show in Houston, Texas.
