Summer Drawing Classes

Clay on Main is offering two drawing courses this July. The weekly classes are both four sessions long, and both start on Wednesday, July 25. Ray Lapinski, a rising senior at the Lehigh Valley Charter Arts High School, will teach cartooning, and Ron Schira, a renowned local artist and critic, will guide students through observational and abstract evocation of space, light, and form.

The cartooning class is open to all ages, but is an excellent choice for kids and teens since Ms. Lapinski has an intuitive understanding of the perspective of youth, combined with a solid understanding of technique. Students will complete a three-page storyboard in her class and will learn about character development and dialogue as well as anatomy and other drawing skills.

Drawing: Beyond Graphite will provide working artists and novices alike with an opportunity to focus and create in a supportive environment, while benefiting from Mr. Schira’s extensive experience in a wide variety of media and his acute understanding of what makes a drawing work. Students are invited to use the media of their choosing, with suggestions of charcoal, colored pencils, oil pastels, chalk, or watercolors.
