As cooler weather approaches, many of us start to wish for quiet indoor time with family and friends. Clay on Main offers two workshops this November that will provide a wonderful way to get together and enjoy good company, while making beautiful gifts or keepsakes.

On Nov. 4, from 10 a.m.-noon, local business owner and artist Beth Glick will teach about Patchwork Doodles, her meditative technique for creating beautiful line drawings. Max Rhoads, a multi-disciplinary artists and member of Clay on Main’s co-op, will guide students through the simple process of making fused glass ornaments on Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Glick and Rhoads are both passionate about encouraging everyone to make art, whatever their level of experience. “I started creating my patchwork doodles as a child in church,” explains Glick. “It was just a simple activity I did on my own to pass the time, and I still find it calming and fun. Later on, I created Patchwork doodles as a way to use up some of my scrap paper. It’s amazing how gorgeous the results can be – all of us have the ability to create beautiful designs.” Rhoads’ artistic journey has taken her through various media; in addition to her glass creations, she works with clay and fabrics and has been designing and crafting costumes for local theatrical productions for years.

Clay on Main’s homey atmosphere is complemented by the friendliness of the staff, almost all of whom are volunteers. Clay on Main’s mission is dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for getting together and making art, whether it’s functional crafts, fine art, or music. Both workshops are $40 plus a materials fee, and are open to students of all ages.

Clay on Main is a non-profit artists’ cooperative, located at 313 Main St in the historic village of Oley.
