Bob Seger has released some surprise new music for his fans.

Seger has posted a free download of the unreleased song “Finding Out” on his web site at bobseger.com/findingout. The ballad was written during the early 2000s and originally recorded for his 2006 album “Face The Promise” but didn’t make the final cut and was recorded again during sessions for his latest release, 2017’s “I Knew You When.”

Seger continues to convalesce from spinal surgery during October that forced him to postpone the 20 remaining concerts of his Runaway Train Tour. Seger has not yet announced make-up dates; In a December interview he noted that “The pain…is constant. It’s nagging…if it doesn’t (go away), I’m done, dude. I think it’s going to be OK, I really do. But, God, it’s taking a long time…”

During a visit to the North American International Auto Show’s preview week, meanwhile, Seger noted that he was still in pain and had not yet determined when or if he’d be returning to the road.

“I Knew You When” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Current Rock Albums chart, No. 2 on the Top Rock Albums chart and No. 25 on the Billboard 200 after its mid-November release.
