The Berks Choir Games was established by the Reading Choral Society in 2014 as a festival to share, inspire, and celebrate the continued creation of and love for excellent and diverse choral music in Berks County and beyond. This is the 4th year of our festival, and this year we will once again be focusing on the art of a cappella! BCG 2018 will be comprised of 3 components: Afternoon of A Cappella, Main Stage Concert, and Community Pop-Up events.

Our Afternoon of A Cappella will include a cappella master class sessions focusing on staging, choreography, vocal percussion/beatboxing, and a collaboration of best practices. Masterclass sessions will be presented by our headliners Blue Jupiter. The afternoon will culminate in a flash round Exhibition Concert featuring our masterclass participants. A Cappella ensembles from West Chester, Albright College, Elizabethtown, UofArts Philadelphia, Reading High School, Wyomissing High School, and more will share their favorite selections of the afternoon. Exhibition concert is from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Abraham Lincoln Ballroom. Concert is open to the public and costs $5.

You can also join us at the Main Stage Concert on Saturday night, March 10th, where we will punctuate an exciting afternoon of events as we host our headliners “Blue Jupiter” hailing from New York, NY. No instruments. No DJ. No tracks. No calories. No carbs. This NYC-based quartet is just 4 mouths and 4 mics. Real voices and nonstop energy. In a world where seemingly everything is fake, Blue Jupiter is literally, out of this world and will feature selections from their most recent album, Twisted Broadway, Vol. 1 as well as a broad menu of diverse a cappella.

Blue Jupiter will also be joined by our friends, The OcTonics, a vocal ensemble comprised of eight students from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The group focuses primarily on a cappella literature from the 20th and 21st centuries, performing arrangements by Ward Swingle, Jonathan Rathbone, Deke Sharon, Kirby Shaw, and more. The OcTonics perform on a regular basis at the university and in the Philadelphia region.

Bring a friend and come on out for a night or an entire day of fun, high energy, and the best in a cappella! There is something for everyone and anyone!
