Steel River Playhouse is working in collaboration with The Company Theatre to bring theatergoers “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” a fanciful musical perfect for the whole family April 7-15 at 2 pm. This all-adult cast bring to life the musical works of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, the incomparably imaginative creators of Seussical, Ragtime, Once on This Island, Anastasia, and more!

These Tony and Academy Award winning composers have hit it out of the park again with this colorful, fun and touching musical that is ideal for children and adults alike. Starring Alex Harding as the insecure and intellectual Emperor Marcus, and Stephen Waters as Arno, the castle’s lovable scrub boy who becomes the Emperor’s most trusted friend.

Also starring Tim Novak as William and Kathryn Tilley as Deena, the hilarious, well-meaning advisors, and occasionally bumbling employees of the Emperor.

Rounding out the first rate cast is Zach Haines, as the Swindler, who is the slick and well spoken con man who convinces Marcus to buy his “magical” clothes which will help him run the Empire. As Emperor Marcus is nervous to take the throne, he decides that he can only gain confidence by dressing in the finest attire. Therefore, Marcus commands his Royal Clothes-maker (Deena) to fashion him in the most royal wardrobe. Taking advantage of Marcus’ uncertainty and immaturity, the Swindler promises to make magic clothes that are “invisible to fools, liars, and anyone you should ignore,” for a large and hefty price. Only Arno, the simple-hearted mop boy, can help Marcus out of this royal mess and teach him an important lesson about outward appearance, self acceptance and being brave enough to always tell the truth.

As a Theatre for Young Audience musical, this show is perfect for every age, and is approx. 60 minutes in length. Adults will also delight in this fairytale come to life, based on the Hans Christen Anderson classic tale.
