As Mother’s Day comes around, area residents might consider signing up for a Fused Glass Jewelry workshop with Max Rhoads at Clay on Main. Clay on Main is offering a special price for this workshop, in celebration of the holiday – it’ll be only $15, materials included. It takes place the day before Mother’s Day, on Saturday, May 12, from 10 am to noon. This art form is accessible to everyone – ages 4 and above are welcome, so it’s a great activity for families. While simple to create, fused glass’s luminous surface and saturated colors contribute to beautiful, and durable, wearable art. Community members can sign up via clayonmain.org, by calling the studio at 610-987-0273. Class size is limited, so interested parties should sign up early.

Just one week later, Clay on Main hosts another workshop that is all about color: Monoprinting. JoAnn Morrell will guide students as they explore this fresh, immediate printmaking technique. Using acrylic paints and gelatin plates, participants will work with texture and pattern to create original artworks that can be hung on the wall, or sent through the mail as one-of-a-kind greeting cards. This workshop takes place on Saturday, May 19 from 10 am to noon; the cost is $40 plus a materials fee of $10.

Moving into summer, people with plants on their mind might consider Clay on Main’s Succulents workshop, with Sandra Britland, on June 16 from 10-noon. Succulents are the perfect choice for a crafty gardener; Sandra will help students create a pleasing combination of varieties, as well as providing instructions for care. In July, Stephanie Stamm will teach a workshop on crocheting, allowing anyone curious about this relaxing hobby to give it a try. After taking the workshop, students will have the skills to create a pot holder, scarf or blanket. Learn to Crochet: Basic Stitches will take place on July 14, from 10 am to noon.

Clay on Main is a non-profit artists’ cooperative, located at 313 Main Street in the historic village of Oley. The studio offers art instruction and gallery space for local artists, as well as live music and more. Clay on Main houses a complete clay studio, a slumped and fused glass studio, a live performance venue, and a yoga room, in addition to the co-op and gallery. Clay on Main is open to the public on Sundays from 1-4; Tuesdays from 10-2, Wednesdays from 12:30-7:30, and Fridays and Saturdays from 10-2.
