Black Diamond Soaring, Inc now offers flights in the 1920s era Great Lakes open cockpit biplane.

The Great Lakes open-cockpit biplane was designed in the 1920s and factory-built in 1980. Great Lakes, model 2T-1A Sport Trainer, is a two-place, open cockpit biplane for one passenger with a pilot.

Flights are held at Black Diamond Soaring, Inc., a grass runway at Morgantown Airport, 590 Willow Glen Road, Morgantown, at the intersection of Willow Glen with Main Street, aka Route 23.

Visitors come to a grass runway to see gliders and biplanes; that’s why we added a biplane to our aviation operation.

Black Diamond Soaring, Inc is a locally owned company based at Morgantown Airport since spring 1988. Forrest Schmeck is chief pilot and aviation business president.

Now, in addition to the sailplane flights available to the public, we offer rides and taildragger instruction in our classic biplane.

All of our pilots are highly experienced, flying well-maintained aircraft for your safety and enjoyment.

Rides are available seven days a week. Tailwheel instruction are available seven days a week.
