Hamburg Family Dental moved to a new office at 469 W. State Street in Hamburg, featuring a parking lot, ramp and new, upgraded equipment.

“Many of our patients are excited for us,” said Dentist Dr. Mariam Barikbin, DMD. “A lot of our patients have been patients of the practice since they were kids so I have 50-year-olds and 60-year-olds who have always been in the same practice. I’m glad they stuck around with me, with the practice over the years and I think they appreciate that the equipment is being updated and somebody’s taking care of the practice. Now they can bring their kids or grandkids over here.”

“The best part is to be able to continue something that’s been in the community and make it better and keep it going, do our services better,” said Barikbin.

Barikbin, registered dental hygienist Bryana Crawford, EFDA dental assistant Natalie Breidegam and dental assistant Ashley Schistle began seeing patients in the new office starting Jan. 18. Barikbin thanked all of the patients and staff for their support over the years and their cards and congratulations during the transition to the new office.

“I really appreciate all of the staff and patients for all of their support,” said Barikbin.

Barikbin believes the dental practice originated with Dr. Ruff in the 1950s and was later owned by the late Dr. Raymond Haslam, under his own name, since around the 1960s. Barikbin took over the practice in January 2011 and changed the name to Hamburg Family Dental. The office was located at 132 S. 4th Street across from the firehouse for it’s entire history until its recent move to State Street in January.

“The building needed repairs and the convenience of having a larger parking spot for the disabled people as well as just easier commute, we ended up moving the office to a different location,” she said. “This is larger here. It has better flow. Obviously it’s designed with the purpose of a dental office where as the old office was originally designed as a residence and a dental office and then overtime Dr. Haslam bought another building and converted it to the dental office it was. It was a longer, narrower space; it didn’t flow well.”

Some of the equipment was also older and needed to be replaced and upgraded.

“I think this helps patients a lot,” said Barikbin. “The existence of the ramp up front, patients seem to love it. We are able to accommodate patients with wheelchairs, walkers and even just normal canes.”

For the old office, patients had to walk from the municipal lot down the block and up several stairs.

“The doorways were narrow and the bathroom was not accessible so a lot of people had a hard time getting in, so everybody has noticed that as well as the parking lot, so we immediately have a parking space available for the disabled according to code,” she said. “They can get dropped off right at the ramp.”

Barikbin said Hamburg Family Dental is also able to offer more services, better equipment and newer equipment at the new office. Also, the building requires less repairs and maintenance.

“We do offer a lot of services,” she said, continuing the holistic practices of Dr. Haslam.
